The first real hint of fall is definitely here! The crisp morning air, the golden light, and, of course, the chance to start layering again have all arrived. Sweater weather has officially returned, and with it comes one of my favorite styling moments: the effortless pairing of a cozy cardigan over a not-so-breezy dress.
I embraced the seasonal shift with a soft, Sezane cardigan layered over a short, deep green dress from last year’s Sezane collection. The dress, rich in texture, echoes the lingering warmth of early October afternoons and pairs beautifully with the buttoned knit. It’s that kind of combination that feels polished without trying too hard, a go-to formula for transitional days.
Color-wise, I leaned into fall’s richest palette. The moss green tones of the dress and cardigan are brought to life by earthy orange accents in my bag, shoes, and the subtle hues in my scarf. Think autumn leaves, pumpkin spice, and fireside warmth. The blend of green and orange feels both grounded and vibrant, ideal for everything from a morning coffee run to a casual weekend stroll.
Accessories stayed simple: just a touch of pearl jewelry to catch the golden afternoon light. As the season deepens, this base look will be easy to build on, just add tights and perhaps even a pillbox hat for a vintage-inspired twist.
Layering in fall isn’t just practical, it’s an art form. Start with richly textured base pieces, then build interest with a deeper color palette. The key is to balance comfort with intention and never underestimate the power of color to reflect the season around you.
Here’s to the first fall layers, may they be cozy, stylish, and perfectly timed.
