Year after year, every December our calendar is filled with holiday plans, and there’s one tradition our family never skips: Christmas tree picking at one of our favorite tree farms. This year marked our 10th year of loading into the car, bundling up in scarves and sweaters, and heading out to find the one—our Christmas tree.
What started as a simple outing a decade ago has grown into one of the most meaningful traditions in our family.
Over the years, we’ve learned that tree picking isn’t about perfection. Some years we come home with a tall, full beauty; other years it’s a slightly lopsided tree with “character.” Every single one has been perfect in its own way.
The best part is watching how the tradition has evolved along with us. The kids who were once carried in our arms, too small to walk on their own, then later needed help trudging through the snow, now race ahead, debating which tree is best. There are photos from every year: the same farm, the same smiles, different heights, different coats, and so many memories layered into each snapshot.
As we celebrate a decade of Christmas tree picking, we’re reminded that traditions don’t have to be elaborate to be lasting. Sometimes, all it takes is showing up year after year together.
And as long as there are Christmases to come, we’ll be heading back to the tree farm, ready to keep this tradition growing. 🎄
